About the REU Site Program

This is an NSF National Science Foundation funded REU Site Program aimed for Extensive and Collaborative Undergraduate Research Experience (SECURE).

The overall goal of the REU Site is to promote early engagement of undergraduate students in research through faculty mentoring relationships, foster student learning through hands-on and interactive learning activities, and inspire them to pursuit higher degree programs in CS and IT education.

The SECURE program will achieve these goals by

  • Providing an extensive research experience for talented undergraduates through strategic recruitment with a specific focus on attracting women and underrepresented minorities,
  • Facilitating the learning of research and laboratory skills, critical thinking, problem solving, logical reasoning, organizational skills, and effective communication skills, and
  • Building strong mentoring relationships between students and faculty mentors through intellectual interaction as well as social interactions.

Eligibility

Participation in this REU Site Program is limited to students who meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Preference will be given to students based on these criteria:
    • Completion of advanced coursework related to the research area
    • Junior or senior standing with one year of remaining undergraduate coursework
    • Strong interest in pursuing an advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.)

Applications are especially encouraged from students in these groups:

  • Historically underrepresented in graduate education, including students with disabilities
  • Currently attending academic institutions where research programs are limited
